(Musa paradisiaca) Tree-like, yet actually a tall herbaceous perennial with large evergreen leaves sometimes growing up to 7ft long and over 1ft wide. A striking purple "blossom" emerges on a stem from the center of the tree near the leaf base of mature plants. The bananas develop on this stem.
