(cocos nucifera)

Arched leaf fronds up to 18ft long grow on a tall, slender, and often leaning trunk in this well-known tree of the tropics. Intricate, ivory, flower-like stems can be seen near the lower leaves where tiny coconuts develop into bunches of as many as 40 full-sized nuts.

Great Purple Hairstreak (Atlides halesus)

Actually iridescent blue, this is the largest N. American hairstreak and it is found from S. Central Florida west to California. Its caterpillar feeds on mistletoe.

This print is on archival quality paper, and double matted-- an archival white matting with a gold undermat. The Latin and common names provide identification, in keeping with tradition. An oriental "seal" has been created by the artist and is used for identification and to balance the work.
