(Dryopterie marginalis)
A common fern of the Northeast, though rare on coastal lowlands, it is found in rocky woods or shaded ledges and tall slopes, and sometimes in swamp hammocks. Range: Northeast from Minnesota to Nova Scotia and south to Alabama and Oklahoma. It grows 12-30 inches tall.
Red-spotted Newt (notophthalmus viridescens)
A colorful salamander, this newt is orange red as an immature terrestrial eft, and yellowish green as an aquatic adult. Both stages have red and tiny black spots.
