Rock Polypody (Polypodium virginianum) This fern is a favorite in works of art depicting the Adirondack mountains. Fern patches are found in thin soil capping large rocks and fallen logs, or on cliffs and ledges in open woods. Often found just out of reach of browsing deer. Range: N.E. America from E. Alberta to Newfoundland and South to N. Georgia and Arkansas. Grows 4-15" tall.
